I keep six honest serving men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.
Introductions are about helping people feel at ease in the group, to create an atmosphere in which they can talk more freely. Self-disclosure helps to create rapport whether in a group or in a one to one communication. These questions are designed to help you facilitate your partner’s self-disclosure at different levels. Take them slowly, enjoy the responses.
Participants interview each other, 10 minutes each way using the following questions.
Each member then introduces his or her partner back to the group (2-3 minutes)
- Give me a WHERE,
Tell me about a PLACE that has a special significance to you.
- Give me a WHAT,
Tell me about something important or unusual that you DO or have done..
- Give me a HOW,
Tell me about a SKILL OR ABILITY you are proud to possess.
- Give me a WHY,
Tell me WHY you do an activity that is important to you. Choose an activity from medicine or life. Concentrate on the “why?”
- Give me a WHO,
Tell me about something central about yourself, something that makes you WHO YOU ARE. Sometimes thinking of a metaphor to describe yourself is helpful.
- Give me a WHO ELSE
Tell me about who else there is in your life, either metaphysical or human. What significance do they have to you?
