Minutes of last meeting.
These were accepted
Reporting in
We all had a chance to discuss how we were getting on. Some of the points
that emerged included
- * How different registrars need different types of support at different
times e.g. one GPR said she was more able to ask questions in Phase 3 as she
was more comfortable with looking foolish i.e. more confident
- * The use of tandem surgeries was discussed and how these could be used
for formative assessment and for the trainer’s report. One trainer had found
it useful to try to focus on one particular skill during tandems e.g.
summarising
- * Reviewing cases at the end of each surgery can be a useful teaching
opportunity but if done in full can be time consuming
- * Newer trainers were pleased with the competence of their GPRs but noted
that attitudes may be an area which are difficult to be clear about and to act
on effectively
- * Use of appraisal tools were discussed. The STAR rating and P2D2 seemed
to be most favoured
- * Lots of other things too! Please e-mail the group with all the gems I
have missed
May Event
This will be held at Embleton Hall on the afternoon of the 9th of May and all
day on the 10th. Please let me know ASAP about attendance and in particular if
you plan to stay the night (which is customary and highly recommended) so I can
let the hotel know about the rooms currently held for us i.e. the whole hotel!

from our PGI budget to support Brad’s work.
Primary Care Research Initiatives
It will be up to individual practices to express an interest
Meeting with Paul Creighton
Paul will be taking over responsibility for training practices in the area
and wishes to meet the group. Arrangements as above.
AOB
- Long-term Planning
As above
- Peer Appraisal
It was observed that this had not been happening. A variety of reasons and
options were discussed. It remains the firm view of the group that it is a
good idea but how it can be sustainably achieved requires more thought. One
option would be to have a definite afternoon identified for us to report back
the results of the visits. More discussion needed at Embleton
On the minutes page.
