Matters arising
- New Members were welcomed
- Group exercises. See attachments re hope/fears etc.
- Minutes of last meeting were accepted
- Educational web site
Dave received positive feedback for his efforts. He will send the address
round to members who had not received it. Some technical difficulties were
discusses but in Brad’s absence were not resolved. It was suggested that
it could be added to Brads web site. Developing more scenarios, in this way,
may be an ongoing agenda item for the group.
- Supervisory training
Both those delivering the training and those receiving it were able to
express their views. It seemed that each training pair were at about the
same stage in the process. It has been a useful focus for reflecting on
training methods both for supervisory trainers and prospective trainers. A
common difficulty was that a curriculum planning session was difficult when
the prospective trainers had previously had little contact with the GPR.
Alan noted that, from his perspective, it meant that for this six month
block Gareth would have less contact with the Amble GPR and that this was a
potential disadvantage of the system.
- AOB
- Letter from Nick Booth. A wide-ranging and somewhat unenthusiastic
discussion took place. I enclose a letter to Nick, which summarises our
thinking. It may be useful to revisit this with Brad at the next meeting
as he knows most about it
- Training Appraisal. Charles has recently has his trainers appraisal
visit from the scheme. He had found this helpful and as a result had
devised a way of reflecting progress back to the trainee via the
computer. He agreed to send this round to the group
- Peer Appraisal was discussed and it was hoped that these will have
taken place prior to the next meeting
- Tutorial Video. Unfortunately time was short for this part of the meeting,
however, Alan showed an interesting clip of audit planning. Some learning
points which emerged included: Being aware of balance of talk between Tr and
GPR Reflecting back emotional tone of GPR Shared difficulties in helping
GPRs choose audits (not fully explored)
One point I noted in trying to facilitate is that it is always important to
end up with a balance of good points and things to work on. In a consultation
this is usually fairly east to achieve but if we are only showing tutorial clips
of bits we are worried about there may be a potential to be too negative.
Perhaps we should think about this for next time.
Next meeting
