North Northumberland Trainers GroupTrainer group meeting held on 22/9/98 at Wooler |
|
After some communication from Derek Blades, the out in practice sessions were planned as follows:
For the other OIP session dates, GP registrars will be expected to work in their practices, as we are providing 6 sessions instead of 4, and it is suggested that trainers view the 2 extra sessions as "extended study leave".
Gary Fraser suggested that NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) could be a useful topic for the session. he will explore the feasibility of this by the next meeting. After further thought, this could be combined with cognitive therapy sessions looking particularly at brief intervention psychotherapy, which could be run By Sally Standart. We could then tie all this into our resource pack and consultation skills course.
Problems with email attachments were discussed, and it appears that some practices are trying to operate using underpowered hardware or old software, and this is causing difficulties with reading attachments. There was a consensus that this could be solved by using standard software ie: Office97, as this is really the industry standard. Using lower versions of Word and Excel will mean that the formatting of documents in the way we wish may not be possible, and Word97 documents cannot be read by other programs such as Works. All practices are encouraged to standardise to Office97. Outlook was suggested as a common email client, and this seems logical. IT experts in the group will assist by troubleshooting at each practice as the last part of trainer meetings.
Brad Cheek will explore a medline searching session with Linda Cox.
Brad Cheek is waiting for a
summary of the 18/6/98 afternoon session
on appraisal and trainee problems from Dave
Gill - this can then be developed by the group into a more
complete resource pack.
This was deferred to the next meeting.
Chris Marr has now acquired the CD writer and it is planned that we produce a pilot resource CD-ROM by the end of the year. We will circulate an email list to all group members about the content of the CD-ROM - please add any relevant tools or programs which you have to the list.
A possible structure of the disk could include each of these areas with cross-references:

It is possible that this resource will be distributed nationally. Chris Marr is exploring the addition of the PEP programs.
This was deferred to the next meeting.
This was provided by Dave Gill as a 3-page option to the one-page version already distributed.
