Members Present:

Apologies:

Embleton Hall 1998

George Taylor had suggested that CPCR may be a useful resource. Brad will sound them out. Official Section 63 bids will be invited later in the year.

Trainee problems

In order to improve teaching at out-of-hours cooperatives, Chris Marr suggested using a phone doubler. This allows the GP registtrar to hear the triage conversation with the patient by the trainer, and vice-versa.

Corporate identity

Some discussion took place about developing the concept of training in North Northumberland to be inclusive rather than exclusive. This would bring the GP registrars more formally into the process and aid the formation of the learning organisation within the practices. It was suggested that the overall group underwent a subltle name change to the North Northumberland Training Group to reflect this. The trainers meetings would be a subset of this group. A decision was deferrred to the next meeting so that members not present had an opportunity to comment on this change of focus.

Correspondence received

The scheme's annual report was received. Our trainer group is one of the more active trainer groups in the region.

Information on a callibration meeting for video and audit components of summative assessment was received. The group had previously agreed that two members would be involved in each area:

Video component
Stuart Jobling
Dave Gill
Audit component
Chris Marr

Physiotherapy course

This was run as a half-day release course, but was more successful as a full day. We should probably therefore extend this session to a full day in future.

Development of the Group vision

The group members present were not able to report on any develpment in the EBM or trainee log components of the vision.

Consultation teaching

Gordon apparently hopes to run it at Rothbury in November for our trainees.

Information technology

Where are we now?
Greystokes, Morpeth have paid their money and are about to plug in! Stuart's email address is 113253.1254@compuserve.com.
Where are we going?
EBM is an integral part of our development now.
The IT half day release course was fairly successful. The main difficulty was the slow and quirky access to the web: the facilities offered by the Northumberland Health IT training room are not sophisticated enough for our needs. Further sessions could be held at the suite which is being developed at the primary care development centre in Newcastle.
How do we get there?
Short hands-on sessions addressing specific issues at every meeting - but this did not occur at this meeting.
