Matters arising

The agenda

Recurring items will be at the top of the agenda and be time-limited to allow time for the development of the group vision.

Physiotherapy course

This was considered successful by all the trainees, and helped with their understanding of the role of physiotherapy in acute and chronic conditions. Perhaps a little too much time was spent on the rarities, but the principles of the discussion of a rare condition would apply to all chronic conditions.
Brad will contact the physio dept and George Taylor to determine if this can be a regular study day.

Embleton Hall

This was a great success in developing our group vision. Brad will contact Peter Havelock re the trainee log and the teamwork booklet.

Undergraduate GP project

There has been a big silence here. Brad will contact John Spencer again. This becomes part of the group vision

House officer GP awareness-raising project

This becomes part of the group vision.

IT project

This becomes part of the group vision.

Consultation skills course for GP registrars

This becomes part of the group vision.

Hospital doctor teaching

Some concern was expressed at the quality of teaching in the hospital jobs at Wansbeck. This becomes part of the group vision.

Report from the trainers conference

It was felt that the venue was good with the event being a good opportunity for networking. Lectures were too long, the group work too short. Particular points were Di Jelley's family history sheet and Chris Marr's talk, for which he won (and thoroughly deserved) a bottle of champagne.

Agenda items

Videoconferencing

A possibility exists to develop videoconferencing tutorials between trainees and St Ostwalds Hospice in Newcastle. The trainees may be able to benefit from this, and Dr Hastings may be able to arrange this. The trainer group did not feel that it was realistic to try to add this to our current project.

JCPTGP visit to the Northern Region

This visit raised two issues:

Trainee problems

There are only two trainees in the group now. We should have a full house from August 1997.
