North Northumberland Trainers GroupAnnual report of activity 1998 |
|
This has been another productive and enjoyable year for Trainer Group 1 and over this time period we have built on our IT strategy and begun the development of several tools for use within the Group. We are now all linked by electronic mail and Brad Cheek has further developed his Internet site so that all the minutes and resources developed at the Group meetings can be accessed by anyone who would like to see them. We have had some interesting responses from around the world and the site has become very popular - all credit to Brad's efforts.
We have continued the idea of "Guru meetings" which have combined useful discussions with various people on the future development of training, with an enjoyable social element. These have been both informative and have stimulated many ideas and active discussion.
There has been work done on developing a "Trainee log" to help with the collection of data required for Summative Assessment and further expansion of the undergraduate teaching with regular visits of house officers from Wansbeck General to some of the training practices. Teaching of medical students continues to be high on the agenda also.
The Group has developed a new "Consultation course", which is being run by Gordon Cameron and Stuart Jobling and this has been extremely popular with the registrars who have given very positive feedback. The "Physiotherapy course" which was developed last year, has continued and also been very successful.
This year's two day course at Embleton Hall concentrated on Appraisal skills and hopefully will result in the development of a new formative tool that can be used by registrars and trainers.
Dave Gill has worked hard on assessment and management strategies for "Common training problems" and this is another area that we hope to develop further.
You can see all this and more! on Brad's website at "wcsquare.demon.co.uk."
