- BP should be measured every 5 years in all adults over 16 years .
- BP should be measured every one year in
patients with:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- Renal disease
- Borderline hypertension
- On oral contraceptive

Suggested hypertension management strategy
Hypertension: BHS guidelines 2004 have been superceded by the NICE hypertension guidelines 2006

Allow 4-6 weeks for a therapeutic trial of each drug.

If response to treatment is inadequate (<5mm diastolic) check compliance.

Avoid NSAID, effervescent analgesics, Gaviscon and pseudoephedrine - can all raise BP by 5mm Hg.
