These tablets (sometimes called GTN, TNT or Trinitrin) have been prescribed to help relieve your "angina". These tiny white tablets work very quickly and effectively, and are used by millions of people all over the world.
How do I take them?
Place the tablet under the tongue and let it dissolve. It will do this over a few minutes. The TNT passes through the skin inside the mouth and directly into the bloodstream. Do not swallow the tablet: If you swallow the tablet it will have no effect (although it will do you no harm).
Within a minute or so your chest pain should be eased. Some people need 2 or 3 tablets to ease the pain, whereas others need less than one tablet. You will find the correct dose for you by trial and error.
What are the side-effects?
The tablets can cause dizziness or a throbbing headache. If these occur, they should go away within about 20 minutes and will not do you any harm. You can avoid these side-effects by taking the tablet out of your mouth once your chest pain has settled.
How many can I take?
Use the tablets every time you feel the "angina". You can even take a TNT to prevent the angina eg: before climbing a hill or going upstairs. If you feel that you are using a lot of tablets please let me know, because I may be able to suggest other treatment to prevent the angina.
These tablets are fragile!
After a while these tablets lose their effect, so ask for a fresh supply every two months. They will also lose their effect if not stored properly, so keep them dry in a dark glass bottle.
DON'T FORGET
- Use your TNT's when you get angina.
- Store your TNT's properly.
- Renew your supply every 2 months - return the old tablets to the pharmacy for safe disposal..
- If you seem to be using a lot of tablets, let me know.
