Each GP performer is contacted
and invited to choose their appraiser from the
list of appraisers. They will be asked to give a first and
second choice. Appraisees will be able to choose any appraiser on the PCT
appraisal list (not just appraisers in their locality). The choice will be
ratified by the appraiser they have chosen based on willingness, geographical
distance, and the number of appraisals that the appraiser is doing in that
year. The final decision rests with the appraiser.
By choosing their own practice appraiser, the
appraisee will opt for in-house appraisal. For those who choose an external
appraiser, we would hope to offer the appraisee their first choice appraiser,
and the appraisee will be contacted if this is not easily feasible.
Appraisees
will choose an appraiser so that they do not have more than 2
appraisals in a row by the same appraiser. This system starts from the
2003-2004 appraisal round to conform to the Quality assurance
guidelines.
Appraisees will have an external appraisal at least once every 3 years.
Appraisees who do not choose an
appraiser will be allocated an external appraiser.
